Intent and Impact Statement
|
St George’s is a caring Christian family where we aim to nurture a love of God and each other, celebrating each child’s unique qualities, respected and valued by all. Our Christian ethos is at the heart of the curriculum and is integral in underpinning everything we do. Through close community links and involvement with St George’s church, children learn to build relationships and to promote love, understanding and trust. Throughout school we aim to foster a desire to succeed by setting high expectations through an engaging and challenging inquiry based curriculum that is inclusive to all. Our curriculum also reflects the locality of Mossley and incorporates the historical and geographical context and traditions of our surrounding area. We endeavour to provide valuable opportunities to engage learning such as themed weeks, residential and school trips, visitors and varied musical and sporting events to promote a broad and balanced curriculum. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. |
We recognise the importance of early language skills, good phonic knowledge and to develop a love of reading. We see Reading as a key priority and our curriculum facilitates this. The teaching of English and Maths basic skills is a thread throughout all subjects and classroom activities provide opportunities for the application of these skills. Active learning and practical based investigation within all subjects is encouraged wherever possible to increase pupils’ sense of awe and wonder and to promote positive learning behaviours and responsibility for self-development. |

Governors and staff believe the personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally play a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve. Pastoral structures are integral to enable the safety and the physical, emotional and mental well-being of St George’s children. We encourage all to develop their own values and beliefs, high standards of personal behaviour, an understanding of their social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures. |
Impact
Children leave St George’s with a sense of belonging to a tightly knit community where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners. They will leave with lots of happy memories and will be prepared for opportunities and obstacles that may face them as a teenager and adult living in modern Britain.
