Fairtrade Breakfast - Oct 2024

Following a donation of £50 from Fairtrade Mossley we were able to run a breakfast offering Fairtrade products to our families.  We also learnt about trying to support the farmers in different countries ensuring they get a fair pay.  

Macmillan Coffee Morning - Sept 2024

We raised a fabulous £400 for the Macmillan charity selling cakes and drinks to our children, parents and the church community

Summer Fair and Open Weekend - July 2024

To celebrate the end of the school's 150th birthday celebrations, we held an open weekend alongside our summer fair.

JuniorSTEM - June 2024

As part of their unit of work on mechanisms, Nightingale class spent the day in a JuniorSTEM workshop where they used Lego to build different models and controlled them using tablets.

Experience Easter - March 2024

Year 5 children were invited to Mossley Methodist church to do some workshops remembering the stations of the cross during Holy Week

Mothers Day Event - March 2024

Robin Class children invited their Mums to come and be 'pampered' for the morning.  The mums received a bag of goodies made by the children including paperflowers, cards and biscuits.  

Art Gallery - Feb 2024

To celebrate our 150th birthday, each child created a piece of artwork remembering one aspect of the last 150 years.  Parents were invited to come and look at the pictures in the school hall

Chester Zoo - Thursday 11th January 2024

As part of our 150th celebrations, the whole school when on a trip to Chester Zoo.

Choir Events - Christmas 2023

Our newly formed choir sang at the Mossley Luncheon Club Christmas dinner.  The chair of the committee said:

Just wanted to thank you for bringing the children along to the Mossley Luncheon Club yesterday. The diners thoroughly loved the children singing and they were brilliant. As promised here is a photo of the children and the Mayor. Once again my thanks and hopefully we can do the same in the Near Year.

Mossley Christmas Tree Festival

School decorated a tree to celebrate our 150th year at the festival held at St John’s church in Dec 2023

150th Tea Party

On Friday 11th August St George's celebrated its 150th birthday. To mark this special date we held a tea party in school and invited pupils and staff past and present along with members of the community.

Fairtrade Breakfast

With the support of Fairtrade Mossley, we were able to invite parents and children to share in toast and drinks whilst reading about how we can support fairtrade.  Fun was had by all especially when Fairtrade Ted flew in on his plane.

Art Gallery

Over recent weeks the children have created a range of artwork using different media around the theme ‘Local artists and the Local area’. Children created artwork in the style of Chris Cyprus, Phil Craven and Mrs Mayall. The artwork ranged from pencil drawings to collage and photography. Year 6 children participated in several workshops led by local artist ‘Mrs Mayall’. She introduced the children to various skills and techniques which they then used to create depictions from the text ‘The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse’ using watercolour. On Friday 10th February the artwork was displayed in school for families and local resident to view. We had an overwhelming response and the artwork was for sale by donation which raised £150 towards sports equipment that the school council are currently raising funds for.

Star Gazing

On Tuesday 31st January 2023, we held a Star Gazing event thanks to the loan of telescopes from Ogden Trust which the school is part of. The event ran from 4:30-6pm where the children had the opportunity to take part in a large range of space themed activities.

The children were able to view the sky through telescopes, try astronaut food, carry out experiments and enjoy learning about the constellations in our solar system.

Christingle service 2022

All children from nursery to Y6 were able to light a Christingle candle during our annual service held in St George's church

Choir trip to sing at the Community Luncheon Club

Children from KS2 volunteered to go to the George Lawton Hall to entertain people at the community Christmas dinner

Visit from an author

We were very pleased to welcome Becky King the author of 'Ember Shadows and the Fates of Mount Never' to speak to Y5 and Y6.  Many of the children were able to purchase her book which she then signed 

Macmillan Coffee Morning - Sept 2022

Together with the congregation of St George's church we held our annual coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Trust.  Thank you to everyone who donated cakes and money, helped serve and who came for a drink and cake.  Together we raised £422

Sports Day - July 2022

It was great to be back at Seel Park, home of Mossley FC to hold our Sports Day after 2 years break due to the pandemic.  Thanks to Hayley our sports coach for organising it with help from Mrs Towell, for the children's super sportsmanship and the parents/carers' support

Jubilee Celebrations

The school celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with arts and crafts in the classroom, a playground picnic and candy floss and games outside.  We are also going to be planting a time capsule.

Young Voices May 2022

The choir joined 9175 other children from across the North West at the AO Arena  in Manchester for the Young Voices Spectacular

Robin Class - Act of Kindness with residents of Sandon House - Jan 2022

All the children made cards, bookmarks, bird food, wind chimes and cup cakes and shared some time virtually with the residents of Sandon House

Swift Class - Christmas Experience at Mossley Methodist Church - Dec 2021

The children of Swift Class revisited the First Christmas with an all-senses journey of activities at the Methodist Church

Macmillan Coffee Morning - Sept 2021

St George's Church and School joined together to hold a coffee morning in church.  Together we raised £650.  Thank you to all concerned.

Fairtrade Breakfast - 2020

We welcomed parents/carers, governors and children to come and have their breakfast at school.  During the time we were able to raise awareness of Fairtrade products available in local supermarkets and celebrate the farmers and workers who grow the food we eat, promoting a living wage and fair trade.

Recreating the Great Fire of London

To finish their Great Fire of London topic Puffin Class set fire to Pudding Lane which they had recreated out of cereal boxes.

Young Voices 2020

Our choir joined nearly 8000 other primary school children at a Young Voices concert at Manchester Arena. We had a great time.

Puffin Class at Mossley Community Fire Station

To start out new topic we visited Mossley Fire Station. We had a great time look at all the equipment, having a tour of the fire station and we even challenged the fire staff to see how quickly they could get dressed into their protective clothing!

Bishop Mark's visit to school 

Some of the staff from Manchester cathedral, Manchester Diocese Board of Education, Bishop Mark, Father David and Father Ian joined with Year 4 to complete some art and craft workshops to think again about the First Christmas story.

Mossley Community Showcase

On a cold Saturday in July, community groups from across Mossley joined together in the school and church grounds to showcase their organisation.  It was a lovely occasion and great to see what the town has to offer.  Thank you to all who came

Tameside Music Service & Radio Visit

Puffin class were luckily enough to have a visit from Tameside Music Service and learn all about drumming. Tameside Radio came along to hear us play and talk to Mrs Divers and Father David about the new outdoor classroom. 

Puffin Class Beach Trip

A wonderful way to end our fantastic year. The children had lots of fun building in the sand and flying their kites.

Ned's Mindset Mission

We were pleased to welcome Kyle from Ned's Mindset Mission to talk to all the children about never giving up and encouraging others in their learning.  The children were fascinated by Kyle's skills with the yo-yo and his magic tricks as he passed on a very important message about 'Go and Grow'

Visit from Pakistan

We were very pleased to welcome Mrs Francis, a headteacher from Station School 2 in the Lahore Diocese in Pakistan to our school.  She visited all the classes and learnt more about life in a classroom in England.

Year 6 Leavers service in Manchester Cathedral

All our Year 6 children went with Miss Kay, Mrs Jamieson, Mrs Divers and Father David to Manchester Cathedral to join with 500 children from other Church schools across Manchester Diocese for the Leavers service.  This was led by Bishop Mark

Puffin Class Sleepover

The children of Puffin Class arrived back at school at 7pm on Thursday 23rd May. There was excitement in the air as the children said goodnight to their parents and made their way to the school hall. Everyone laid their beds out, changed into PJs and settled into sleeping bags for a film and supper. Much to the teachers' surprise most of the children were fast asleep and snoring by 11:30pm! Half 5 the next morning came very quickly and after tidying up the hall the children had a morning play outside and got to be the first children in the new outdoor classroom. Parents began to arrive and together everyone had breakfast in Puffin Class. In the afternoon, they visited Mossley park and had lots of fun playing on the zip wire, climbing frame and swing. 

Miss Foster is very proud of Puffin Class for their behaviour at the sleepover, they were a real credit to St Georges.

Ian Bland Visit

St. George's were very lucky to have the poet Ian Bland work with our children. The day started with a wonderful and extremely funny assembly, followed by class workshops and finally, an opportunity for the children to perform their superb compositions. The day was a great success and much fun was had by all. The day has inspired many of our children to continue writing poetry and who knows, there may be a budding future poet in our midst!

The reveal of 'The Big Frieze' - Monday 4th March 2019

Each class has taken part in creating our own version of 'The Big Frieze'. This illustrates seven of the eight core concepts that are explored in our RE lessons. Father David joined our unveiling and blessed the artwork we had created.
