RE

The subject leader for Religious Education is Mrs Divers

Intent

In Religious Education (RE), pupils enter into a rich discourse about the religious traditions that have shaped Great Britain and the world. RE enables pupils to take their place within a diverse multi-religious and multi-secular society. It is intellectually challenging and personally enriching. It affords pupils the opportunity to see the religion, and non-religion, in the world, and the opportunity to make sense of their own place in the world.

Implementation

RE is taught as a discrete subject throughout KS1 and KS2. EYFS follow their own curriculum guidance where RE is incorporated throughout their learning. As a VA CofE Primary, we use the RE Today scheme to fulfil the diocese requirements

 Aims
  • Our broad aim for RE is to teach children about the Bible and the teaching and practices of Christianity.
  •  To aid children in their spiritual journey and to develop their own beliefs and values.
  •  To prepare children for life in a mixed society by introducing them to the religious experience of people with other faiths.
  • To aid children on their spiritual journey in the discovery of things that matter.

Impact

Pupils develop an increasing knowledge and understanding of a broad range of Christian and non-Christian religious beliefs as they move through school. They can identify and describe key characters, stories and concepts using theological language appropriately. They can discuss the beliefs and practices of others with respect and insight, and will express their own ideas in connection to the themes being studied.
